A corporation will require a VAT number for each country it imports or exports to in the EU because VAT numbers are country-specific. You will require a UK-specific VAT number for imports into the UK.

Unless the importer possesses a VAT deferment authorization, VAT will need to be paid upon import into the EU (common in the Netherlands).
In the UK, unless the importer is registered for Postponed VAT Accounting, VAT must be paid at the time of import (PVA).
