A Stock Keeping Unit, or SKU, is a unique product or service identifier that is used to track inventories and sales.

A Stock Keeping Unit, as the term implies, retailers allocate this alphanumeric code (typically eight digits) to products for internal stock-level management. Furthermore, in cases where a product has distinct colors and sizes, each variation is assigned a distinct Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) number.

Stock Keeping Unit Examples:

  • For a particular product like a T-shirt: XYZ12345.
  • For a product variation, like a T-shirt in a different color: ABC12345-DE.
  • For a product bundle, like a T-shirt and a pair of pants: GHI12345-JK.
