Carriers may impose the PSS (Peak Season Cost), a variable surcharge, during periods of high demand. PSS may be used at any time of the year, but it is most frequently used in the weeks leading up to the fall/winter holidays and the Chinese New Year.
Although it may be canceled or mitigated at a lesser charge, carriers often publicize PSS as an extra fee on top of the base rate. PSS performs comparable duties as GRI.
