Chargeable Weight
Chargeable weight determines your shipment’s cost. Whichever is higher, volumetric or gross weight.
Every airplane, vehicle, and ship has a weight or space limit. Heavy cargo may exceed a ship’s weight limit before all space is used. Light cargo can fill a ship’s space before it reaches its weight limit.
When estimating the cost of moving your shipment, the carrier will consider both the weight and volume by translating the volume into a “weight equivalent” (or sometimes dimensional weight). The carrier charges per kilogram for whichever is greater: real or volumetric weight.
When you request a quote, tell us the actual weight. This determines your quote. Gross weight=actual weight. Chargeable weight is what the carrier charges to move your shipment.
