The Automated Manifest System (AMS) is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection-run computerized information transmission system (CBP). As a security measure, an AMS filing with thorough information about the cargo is necessary for all air and ocean imports entering the United States. Electronic air manifests are handled by the AMS, but AMS is frequently used as a catch-all phrase to include all forms of electronic information transfer. Electronic manifests for trucks, trains, and ships are processed using ACE (Automated Commercial Environment). Each BOL/AWB will incur an AMS cost. The fee must be paid by either the client or the supplier.
